In addition to our enriching curriculum, our preschool program also provides the children opportunities to meet with and benefit from other early childhood professionals. These specialists come to our school every two weeks to teach music, movement, art, Israel folk dance, and nature exploration. The children’s interaction with this wonderful group of professionals bolsters their learning and widens their exposure to great role models and caring adults.
Currently our
specialists include:
1. Art: Our art teacher, Suzanne,
is a professional artist who inspires the children to experiment
with a wide variety of art media, adding meaning and scope to the
children’s art projects.
2. Israel Folk Dance:
Ilana, our dance instructor, leads the children in dance, teaching
them the various skills involved as we dance in pairs, in a large
circle, or snake around the room in happy response to lively Israeli
music.
3. Movement: Judy Diamond is a staple of our
school and has taught many of our children and their siblings for
years. With her, the children strengthen and reinforce their gross
motor skills and grow increasingly able to follow more complicated
instructions.
4. Music: Our fun and lively music
teacher, Lucille, teaches our children the love of music. With her
the children learn to listen and recognize musical concepts such as
rhythm and tempo. She also integrates the various seasonal themes
into the songs she teaches.
5. Nature Exploration: The
Puddlestompers is a wonderful group that comes in once a month to
teach the children about the natural environment in which they live.
The teacher takes the kids out into the woods or the playground to
find leaves, footprints, nests, tracks, and many other treasures,
and points out the little secrets about where these items came
from.
6. Story Time: Every six weeks, the librarian from
the Newton Public Library comes in to read to the children during
story time. The children love these visits and look forward to them
time and again.
